What is job satisfaction
Job satisfaction can be
explained as an emotional reaction to and resulted from the job that the
employee is assigned to. Furthermore, according to Armstrong (2006), The word
"job satisfaction" relates to people's attitudes and sentiments
toward their jobs. Job satisfaction is shown by positive and favorable views
toward the job. Job dissatisfaction is indicated by negative and unfavorable
attitudes toward the job.
Factors affecting job
satisfaction
Job satisfaction is
influenced by a number of factors. The major factors of job satisfaction could
be as The Pay, the work itself, promotions, supervision, workgroups, and
working conditions are all on the list (Luthans, 1985).
Apart from the key
factors mentioned above by Luthans, there can be factors such as Age of the
employee, Social responsibilities, Interpersonal relations, Compensations and
additional fringe benefits, Workplace security etc.
How it affects the performance
The job satisfaction of
employees can have a direct impact on their performance.
A satisfied employee can
be highly efficient and productive
The efficiency and
productivity level of an employee can be highly dependent on the satisfaction
level of its employee. They tend to be highly motivated to reach their peak performance
in order to reach their personal targets and may be beyond at times.
Productivity is a
performance measure that includes efficiency as well as effectiveness. As
a result, it's critical to recognize who the productive employees are (Bhatti,
2007).
Reduction in employee
turnover
Satisfied employees are
very much less likely to leave the organization since they are provided with
all the elements they require to work with a sense of happiness. This could be
a huge contribution to the company to avoid unnecessary cost incurred in recruiting
and training new staff. Furthermore, satisfaction can increase loyalty where
employees will be attached with the organization for very longer period and
attract more talent to the company.
Growth of the
organization
If employee satisfaction
levels are considerably highly at the company, the employees would contribute
more towards achieving the organizations overall vision and mission through
increasing sales, enhancing customer services and experience and through reducing
expenses.
Conclusion
With regards to the above
explanations it is clear that satisfying the employees is highly important in
enhancing their performance as well as the company’s overall output.
