What is job satisfaction

Job satisfaction can be explained as an emotional reaction to and resulted from the job that the employee is assigned to. Furthermore, according to Armstrong (2006), The word "job satisfaction" relates to people's attitudes and sentiments toward their jobs. Job satisfaction is shown by positive and favorable views toward the job. Job dissatisfaction is indicated by negative and unfavorable attitudes toward the job.

Factors affecting job satisfaction

Job satisfaction is influenced by a number of factors. The major factors of job satisfaction could be as The Pay, the work itself, promotions, supervision, workgroups, and working conditions are all on the list (Luthans, 1985).

Apart from the key factors mentioned above by Luthans, there can be factors such as Age of the employee, Social responsibilities, Interpersonal relations, Compensations and additional fringe benefits, Workplace security etc.

How it affects the performance

The job satisfaction of employees can have a direct impact on their performance.

A satisfied employee can be highly efficient and productive

The efficiency and productivity level of an employee can be highly dependent on the satisfaction level of its employee. They tend to be highly motivated to reach their peak performance in order to reach their personal targets and may be beyond at times.

Productivity is a performance measure that includes efficiency as well as effectiveness. As a result, it's critical to recognize who the productive employees are (Bhatti, 2007). 

Reduction in employee turnover

Satisfied employees are very much less likely to leave the organization since they are provided with all the elements they require to work with a sense of happiness. This could be a huge contribution to the company to avoid unnecessary cost incurred in recruiting and training new staff. Furthermore, satisfaction can increase loyalty where employees will be attached with the organization for very longer period and attract more talent to the company.

Growth of the organization

If employee satisfaction levels are considerably highly at the company, the employees would contribute more towards achieving the organizations overall vision and mission through increasing sales, enhancing customer services and experience and through reducing expenses. 


Conclusion

With regards to the above explanations it is clear that satisfying the employees is highly important in enhancing their performance as well as the company’s overall output.
