Figure 01: Hybrid Work Model

The Hybrid Work Model can be explained as a change in the traditional working model to a more flexible and employee centric working environment where the employees can work on site and remotely as full-time or part-time of the week/month/year. The concept of hybrid work model was seen as a viable arrangement among employers after the global pandemic, where they were compelled to shift from their traditional brick and mortar working environment.

Benefits of Hybrid Work Model

Hybrid Work Model can be beneficial for both the employer and employees.

Reduction in cost – Employers can reduce the overhead cost such as electricity, water bills, transportation charges, overtime payments and other maintenance costs. This can help the company to maximize profits with improved bottom line.

Attracting good talent – Employers can attract talented individuals across the globe with different and specialized skills and competencies. Further demanding and experienced employees would seek convenient working schedules as they would want to strike a balance between work and personal life. Companies can achieve a competitive advantage through the acquired talents.

Increased productivity and satisfaction – Due to the balanced work life, less commuting and convenient work hours’ employees would feel more satisfied and would contribute more since they can save and spare time for their family. The efficiency and productivity of the workers could increase as they can select on different schedules and locations.

Reduction in CO² emission – The carbon footprint of companies can have a significant reduction since energy sources are less utilized.

Difficulties in Hybrid Work Model

Communication barriers – As employees work in different time frames and locations telecommunication and technological methods are only ways to communicate work related issues. But this can be challenging at times with lapses in connecting with each other.

Coordination among the teams – Since the face to face interactions are barred clear and defined coordination will also be at test. The outcomes and decision making could be delayed and distressed.

Concentration issues – Employees could easily be diverted from their duties since direct supervision is difficult in remote working. If necessary measures aren’t in place to monitor their outputs the company’s performance could be affected.

Conclusion

As the Hybrid Work Model can be the norm of future work and as a contingency plan, organizations are required to plan and adopt necessary flexible work arrangements to succeed as a organization and satisfy its workforce.
